High rise training and familiarisation events continue to organised by the Council’s Compliance Team and the South Wales Fire and Rescue Service (SWFRS).

The Compliance Team facilitated training for SWFRS at a Beech House high rise block in Whitchurch. Cardiff Council works closely with SWFRS to ensure that they are complying with fire safety
legislation and to help the SWFRS familiarise themselves with Council buildings. The compliance team were able to supply a vacant flat which SWFRS filled with synthetic smoke. Two dummies were placed in the flat which were then rescued by the different crews on site. The dry riser was filled with water and the crews put on breathing apparatus to simulate as real a situation as possible.

Visits were also made to Sycamore House in Whitchurch and Loudoun House & Nelson House in Cardiff Bay. SWFRS appreciate the ability to undertake training on high rise buildings and commented that being able to simulate a fake fire, run through the drill and give feedback on what they did is really beneficial to them.
